So after being in fandom for six years I have decided to finally compile a list of fics that move me in some way. Not all of them are written spectacularly, several of them are good enough to be professionally published, many of them are sad, others are happy. All of them have left an indelible mark on me for one reason or another. Most of them are going to be older fics that many might not ever have heard of. I so love reading all of the new fics, but there was something magical about being in fandom in 2002 when there were relatively few fics, at least compared to today.
I will be adding to this list as I re-read older fics and find new ones I like. Most of the fics are going to be SS/HP, but, eventually, there will be other pairings as well as gen. Some of the fics are going to be password protected or archived on a site that requires you to join or be friended to read the fic. Please read the fic headers: not all warnings will be mentioned in my comments, so pay attention to any warnings the author has warned for.
If you find any mistakes please let me know, or if you think I need to add something, such as warnings, let me know that, as well. Many of the fics are older as I have already said, thus they will be AU now. I have not labeled the fics as such, but might do so if enough people think I should.

There are some amazing pieces of art that deserve recognition, so I have decided to begin a list of art that I really, really like. Most of them will be Snarry because I rarely look at art featuring other pairings.
Heed any warnings that are listed on the page the art is posted on!
Some of the art in this list is going to have adult content, thus it will not be work safe. So even though some of the ratings are labeled as PG-13, the art might be more revealing than what most people think a PG-13 rating should be. Proceed with this in mind.
added 8-04-08 Closure by Artisticentropy; SS/HP but could be Gen; Media: Photoshop and graphics tablet; Rated G; This was my gift in the 2007 snarry_holidays and I remember being unable to pull myself away from the computer screen. In the piece, Severus and Harry are at James’s and Lily’s grave. The colors, the details, everything about this is breathtaking. Harry and Severus are about as perfect as I’ve seen them in art. I think this is a piece of art that anyone who appreciates art and Snarry should see.
added 8-05-08 Future Lost by Tasha Neko; SS/HP; Rated PG/PG-13; character death; Artist's Notes: Dolls were sculpted by Volks and Unidoll. Their clothes, face paint, hair and props were done by me. Photographed using a Canon Digital Rebel XT. If you have problems reading the text please highlight under the text and an easier to read font will show; This mesmerized me when I first saw it. The time that must have gone into preparation for this boggles my mind. It is original and so much fun to look at!
added 8-05-08 His Despair, Gryffindor!, Unbreakable Vows, After All by Undun; SS/HP; Medium: Colored Pencil; Rated PG-13; Angst always pulls me in and in this series, something has happened to Harry and we get to see Severus’s reaction. There is so much to love about this art, but the way Severus is drawn is what completely drew me in &mdash especially in the first scene because it is so realistic.
added 8-07-08 Knockturn Alley by Perselus; SS/HP; Rated PG; Not work-safe; I am not a huge fan of showing Severus and Harry in intimate situations in art, but this is such a fun picture, and the detail is amazing! I love the other people who are milling about Knockturn Alley and looking at Severus and Harry out of the corner of their eyes.
added 8-07-08 Lumos by Amy (swtalmnd); SS/HP; Rated PG-13; Not work-safe; This is not at all the image of Severus that I have or even really like, but the way he is depicted makes me love him and want to take care of him. His hold of Harry is sigh-worthy.
added 8-06-08 May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain...and all your heart might desire. by canonfodder123; SS/HP; Rated PG-13; Pencil sketches are among my favorite mediums for art because the art seems so much more raw and emotional. This piece shows a tender moment between Severus and Harry, and it never fails to make me sigh.
added 8-04-08 Quiet Morning by Andreanna; SS/HP; Rated PG-13; Not work-safe; Usually I am not a big fan of Severus and Harry done in this style but, for this series, I have made an exception because the art beautiful; the colors, the textures, in essence, everything about this is amazing! Take a look!

added 8-04-08 Song for the Dead by Odella; SS/HP; Rated PG; Character death; This is my favorite piece of Snarry art ever! It is almost painful to look at because you can almost touch the grief that is depicted. The detail is wonderful. Go look now!

Photographed using a Canon Digital Rebel XT; I will never tire of looking at this artist’s work because the dolls are so very life-like. When I was little I loved playing with barbies because it was as if I was creating another world and could make things happen. This art is very much the same way &mdash the figures seem so alive.

added 6-15-08 A Conscious Choice by Nenya Entwhistle; SS/HP; Rated R; Severus Snape is in pursuit of Harry Potter; 19,000 words; post-Hogwarts; I fell in love with this fic when I initially read it, and today I love it even more. Snape is so snarky and utterly unlovable as he chases his freedom, which only Harry can give him. Harry is snarky and entirely lovable &mslash he gives as good as he gets and it is quite endearing and fun to watch the snark go back and forth, although to be fair, Harry is not being snarky, he is being truthful. It is enjoyable and it rings very true for the two characters we know and love and love to hate &mslash it is not difficult at all to imagine Severus and Harry being in this situation. I really do believe this is a must-read for Snarry fans.
added 6-16-08 A Convenient Marriage by Diana Williams; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Sometimes a marriage of convenience can become so much more...; 23,809 words; post-Hogwarts; This is a classic Harry has to marry Snape fic, but with a twist of sorts. Oh how I love Snape in this; he is as acerbic as ever. Harry and Snape's marriage is rocky and the sex is not at all satisfactory to Harry until… well, you'll have to read to find out the rest! This is one of my all-time favorite fics.
added 6-15-08 A Hiding to Nothing by Meri; SS/HP; Rated R; Snape is sentenced to life as an indentured servant to Harry Potter. They both have to learn to live with the consequences; slightly less than 60,000 words; post-Hogwarts; Oh how I love this fic. Harry is bitter and vindictive when the fic begins, and although he eventually changes the way he sees Snape, the intervening time is filled with such angst and misery that it is difficult to read Harry's thoughts and actions at times without wincing &mslash Snape's despair and fear during these times are evident. It is a beautiful fic and the slow change within Harry is well done. Both Severus and Harry learn to live with what life has given them, and the journey that each takes to get to that point is amazing.
added 6-16-08 A Life More Ordinary by Lexin; SS/HP; Rated R; Snape is told some bad news, and it goes downhill from there; 24,465 words; during Hogwarts; This is another of the fics I read very early on when I discovered SS/HP. It is MPREG, and Snape is the one who carries the baby, and that seems so foreign to me now. It is unlikely that I would read this and like it today, but fortunately, I read it then and it stuck with me all these years. The relationship, or lack of one, between Snape and Harry is tense and it takes a very long time for them to come around and work things out, but even when they do, it is not as if it is all perfect; I think that is what I really liked about the fic. It seemed real… well other than the MPREG and all the magic… it really did seem like a very true-to-life fic, and that left an impression on me. When rereading it today I also had to chuckle over Lexin's foreshadowing, although she could not have known back then!
added 7-06-08 A Mutually Beneficial Arrangement by Elanor Isolda; SS/HP; Rated R; Harry finds out a secret about Snape; 9,657 words; during Hogwarts; One of the first Snape as a Vampire fics I read.
added 6-18-08 A Time For All Things by Meri; SS/HP; Rated R; There is a time for all things, but sometimes you have to wait for them; 24,201 words; post-Hogwarts; There are no gimmicks in this fic - no bonding, no prophecies, no time-travel - simply a straight forward story with a simple plot. Harry wants Snape. Snape makes Harry wait. What transpires next is a great read. This fic has one of my favorite portrayals of Snape… EVER! And, I really like how Meri showed Snape's concern and thoughtfulness regarding certain situations while showing Harry's lack of both - it rang very true as to how each of them would react. Harry is the aggressor and I am much more into Snape being in that role, but everything about this fic was so well done that it did not matter so much that Harry did the pursuing.
added 7-07-08 A Whole Heart by Montana Dan; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Post war. Harry is a medi-wizard at Hogwarts and after a severe epidemic of wizard's flu, Harry succumbs to the virus. Who will take care of Harry?; 6,587 words; post-Hogwarts; I adore this fic so much. I have a weakness for sick Harry fics where Snape has to take care of him, and this hit that kink perfectly.
added 6-22-08 Absolution by Rushlight; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Snape is forced to make a difficult decision when Harry is captured by Death Eaters, and they both have to find a way to deal with the aftermath; 25,557 words; during Hogwarts; This was one of the first SS/HP fics I read and it haunted me for days, maybe weeks; it is not easy to read &mslash there is non-con and it is… painful to read. Afterwards, there is so much grief for both Harry and Severus and they have to deal with it. I know not many people like fics where this type of non-con takes place, and, as I said, it haunted me for a long time, but it is one of those fics I find myself re-reading a few times each year.
added 6-23-08 An Unconventional Relationship by TCRegan and Sophie Richards; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Harry's time at the Dursley's has left him with some rather odd quirks that only Snape can help him work out; 39,260 words; during Hogwarts; This is a fic all snarry-lovers should read. It begins at the beginning of Harry's Hogwarts days, and the evolution of Harry and Snape's relationship from spoilt student/snarky professor to their eventual acceptance of one another, and then more is poignant. Harry, as written in this fic, is how I prefer to read him. It is not exactly canon Harry, but it is an endearing and lovable Harry that makes me smile. Snape is definitely his usual acerbic and unlovable self (although we all do love him)! You can access the other parts of the fic by clicking on the author's ID in the above link, which will then take you to their LJ (their LJ is f-locked but AUR is unlocked, so all of the parts will show up. Note for the curious: this is the fic where Harry sleeps in Snape's cupboard (closet).
added 6-15-08 At the End of All Things by milgarion; SS/HP; Rated R; When Harry's life is turned upside down by a life threatening illness, he goes to the only place he has ever called home; 57,050 words; during Hogwarts; major character deaths; Do not read this fic unless you want to cry! It is devastatingly sad, but so very beautiful. There are better written death fics out there, but this one…oh, there are no words to say how it moved me when I read it, and then to know… well, I'll let you read it and find out yourself.
added 6-19-08 At the Heart of Things by Empathic Siren; SS/HP, SS/DM (not much); Rated NC-17; After being forced to bond five years ago, domestic tranquility does not reign in the Potter-Snape household. Severus thinks he's found something better, only to realize everything he's lost. He decides to prove himself to Harry one day at a time; 12,256 words; I almost never read established-relationship fics because, for me, I want to read about how Snape and Harry get together. In this fic, they are together… yet they aren't. Many times in life we don't realize how good we have it until we no longer possess what we once did. This realization occurs to Severus and he has to find a way to get back what he had so carelessly thrown away. Beautifully written. There is mention of MPREG and difficult subject-matter regarding that. Note for the curious - this is the fic where Severus misses the jam.
added 6-16-08 Beech Hall by Aucta Sinistra; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Dumbledore sends Snape to Harry's manor for his protection; 29,481 words; during Hogwarts; Fics where Harry has to go to Snape Manor to live with Snape… I love them! And this one is one of, and probably, THE best there is of this genre. The interaction between Harry and Snape is excellent. There is so much to love about this fic, so go read it now!
added 7-12-08 Benefits by Schemingreader; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Harry dreams that Snape is alive and needs his help. But can Snape survive Harry's 'saving people thing'?; 9,629 words; post-Hogwarts; This was all kinds of wonderful! Luna with her quirkiness, and Harry with his aloofness (which was adorable) made me laugh throughout. Then there is Snape &mdash perfectly snarky and closed-off to everyone. This was a joy to read!
added 7-07-08 Between the Lines by Dementor Delta; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Harry discovers a secret in his Potions text and a friend in the Half-Blood Prince; 25,000 words; during Hogwarts; This is such an intriguing premise; so very unique. Reading about younger Snape is always a treat, but also, it is heart-breaking because the reader knows what happens to Snape when he gets older, and it is so sad. Highly recommended!
added 6-16-08 Bitten by Aucta Sinistra; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Harry has to track down a vampire who has ... surprising family ties; 27,280 words; post-Hogwarts; I apologise for not giving a longer more eloquent rec here, but If I gush too much, I'll start giving what happens away. Bitten is so charming, and I mean that -- it is revealing, tense, hot, awkward, hot, sarcastic, hot, UST-ish, hot, hot, hot, and hot! The plot is straight-forward and there is one objective &mdash it is amazing what all can happen on a road trip! And although the fic is full of the hotness, it tells a story &mdash about how we judge people without knowing them. Both Harry and Severus learn quite a lot about life and each other through an unlikely source &mdash one that is feared and misunderstood. If you like the build-up to the Snarry in fic...READ Bitten! I can't say enough how much I adore it, so I won't even try. Just GO READ!
added 6-30-08 Borrowed Magic by Empathic Siren; SS/HP/DM; Rated R; What is magic? Where does it come from? These questions plague Harry as he, Severus and Draco work through life, magic, and love in the face of Harry's devastating illness.; 11,728 words; post-Hogwarts; Oh my goodness, this is such a wonderful piece of literature, and the way Siren weaved the present and past was masterfully done. I wanted to cry for Harry, Severus and Draco throughout, realizing that each of them were so intrinsically connected to the other, and the loss of one would affect all three. Highly rec'd! Go read it now.
added 7-28-08 Caged by Sparrowhawk; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; "A robin redbreast in a cage puts all heaven in a rage." --William Blake. There are all kinds of cages, and all kinds of ways to escape them; 11,711 words; during Hogwarts; I read this a long time ago. Snape, as written here, is exactly the man I want to read in a Snarry &mdash he needs to fight his attraction, almost to the point of ridiculousness. This fic is rather original in its plot and the resolution is tense and dramatic.
added 6-17-08 Catching the Snitch by Magdelena; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Written prior to release of HBP. Harry shows up unexpectedly at a Quidditch match at Hogwarts to meet his mystery fiancé. Set 4 yrs after Harry graduates Hogwarts; 15,804 words; post-Hogwarts; This was the very first fic I read by Magdelena, and I recall how it entranced me with its descriptions. I loved how adoring her Harry was of Severus, and well, there isn't anything about the fic I don't adore. My first reading of this fic took place when I read almost exclusively from ff.net and, while there were some gems there, they were few and far between. When I read this fic, I knew two things: Magdelena was an author who knew how to write, and that I wanted to read more of her fics. Little did I know that within a year, she and I would be the best of friends and running a website together! This is a romantic, feel-good fic. If you need a good pick-me-up, this is it!
added 6-16-08 Clipped Wings by Tekka Lynn; SS/HP; Rated R; After catastrophe, Harry deals with survivor's guilt and finds hope for himself and others; 22,100 words; post-Hogwarts; This is a rather dark fic in that it… well, here is a paragraph from near the beginning that gives a small hint of what the fic is about: "It was not easy for him to blend seamlessly into the Muggle world. Old habits had to be relearned, references to the wizarding world censored before they left his mouth. It was a world of euphemisms: "enhanced" for anyone with magical gifts, "treatment" for the process that tore those magical gifts from a former witch or wizard, "detention" for those who spent their lives forcibly locked away from decent, non-magical folk. Hogwarts was never mentioned. Harry had gone to St Brutus's; that was his story and that was the one that the surviving Dursleys stuck to. He had the papers to prove it." Snape enters the picture and his and Harry's relationships is nothing other than breath-taking from beginning to end. I think the author was bang-on with her characterizations of both Snape and Harry. I am in awe of this fic. If I could only take one fic with me from the HP fandom, it would be this one.
added 8-03-08 Closer Than Skin by Sleepless 1111; SS/HP… well, it is and it isn’t; Rated NC-17; The lengths one man will go to after losing the only person he's ever loved — and the redemption he finds in the unlikeliest of places; 79,224 words; post-Hogwarts; major character death; I hesitate to go into any detail about this fic: it is disturbing and angst-filled, but it is one of those beautiful stories that will linger for a long time. Severus is not coping at all mentally and he faces grief the only way he can. That is all I am going to say.
added 7-12-08 Come Out Of The West by Perfica; SS/HP; Rated R; Spending time with an injured man causes a bored Harry Potter to rethink his options in life; 8,978 words; AU; Severus is hurt and Harry takes care of him &mdash what a wonderful recipe for a great fic! It is engaging and just about perfect!
added 7-10-08 Compromising Positions (information to get the password can be found by clicking on the link) by Jade; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Dumbledore sends Harry and Severus on a mission, and both realise it won't be as bad as they think...; 54,193 words; during Hogwarts; This was one of the first fics I read where Snape and Harry were not in their usual setting of Hogwarts, and I loved it! The images that the fic gives us are very nice indeed! If you are in the mood for a hot and sexy fic… THIS is the fic to read!
added 7-07-08 Courtship Rituals by Meri; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Snape is ordered to court Harry Potter.; 56,180 words; during Hogwarts; This fic is a must for anyone who likes the dynamic of Snape and Harry being forced into a situation neither wants to be in. It is always interesting to see how authors approach writing these two characters: from their loathing one another to liking, to more. One of my kinks in Snarry is when a large part of the fic consists of Snape and Harry playing their game of "I loathe you," with one another, and this fic delivers on that. Snape, as written here, completely drew me in to his world and his way of thinking. He has to be a part of something he most assuredly doesn't want to be involved with, yet he does it with honor, and respects what is happening. Then there is Harry, and his change of attitude is endearing to watch.
added 6-26-08 Darkness Shadows Light by Maddy; SS/HP, implied HP/RW; Rated NC-17; Harry and Snape have a secret that could destroy both their lives. It is MPreg; 50,504 words; during Hogwarts; This is one of those fics that I spent years looking for &mdash actually it was one scene I searched for and I never found it, only to discover that it was in my fic file all the while! I am not much into MPreg but this one intrigued me and I love, love, love the relationship between Snape and Harry - Snape is not as acerbic and mean-spirited as he is in many fics, but he definitely is recognizable as he does his best to push Harry away. This fic also tells a compelling story that is just as interesting as the ongoing saga of Snape and Harry. Oh yes, and Ron is a major part of this fic and now that I have written and enjoyed Harry/Ron, I appreciate Ron in this until… well, you'll have to read to find out. In the copy I have there are several grammatical errors that really annoy me, but I am still adding this fic because it has left such an impression on me. There is a sequel here.
added 6-19-08 Dearly Beloved by Diana Williams; SS/HP, others but they would give the fic away and I don't want to do that; Rated NC-17; Harry Potter's getting married in the morning… or is he?; 10,000 words; post-Hogwarts; When I first began reading slash, it was with very little knowledge of what it must be like to be homosexual, and I still don't know much, but what happens in this fic seems to be reflective of what many homosexuals go through: they act one way in private, but publicly they feel as if they need to act another way because that is how society thinks they should act. It is heartbreaking to read much of this fic, but it is bittersweet as well because all of the participants truly are trying to do what they think is best. I encourage everyone to read this fic.
added 7-02-08 Death Eater Takes a Holiday by Lee Lee Potter; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Albus spells a few Order members back to their seventh year age, and sends them to spend time at Hogwarts for a holiday. The Headmaster's intent is for them to learn that Harry is indeed mature for his age, so that he will be accepted as a full member. What will happen when Severus returns from his time as a teen, to find he has spent the better part of the week entwined with a certain Gryffindor? And, how do their lives change afterwards?; 589,853 words; post-Hogwarts; I said I was not going to add any fics to this list that I had not finished reading, but this fic is an exception. The part of the fic where Harry and Snape are in the past and then several chapters after that are worth a rec (I remember getting so excited when a new chapter was posted!), and I am thinking the rest is probably the same. Someday I hope to read it all.
added 6-28-08 Diamonds in the Dust by Armond Malfoy; SS/HP, SB/HP; Rated NC-17; Severus likes Harry. Sirius likes Harry. Harry is confused. Slash ensues.; 60,841 words; during Hogwarts; major character death; That I found this fic again after all these years (it has been in my file since 2005) makes me so happy! I love this fic so much, even though it makes me cry. You know how some fics attach themselves to certain memories? This is one of those; it reminds me of late nights and fun chats. There is not a distinct adversarial relationship between Harry and Snape from the beginning of the fic - Snape is portrayed in a much less derisive light, although, as the fic progresses, the Snape we know shows up, and oh how I love him! This fic has been read more than a few times by me. I do not like to think of Sirius and Harry in a sexual relationship, but, for some reason, in this fic, it didn't bother me… too much, but I am glad that it doesn't last long at all. Be prepared to cry. Oh, there are a lot of places where there should be italics, but for whatever reason, the formatting was not done right, so it sort of looks odd when in the midst of the rest of the fic. It is bothersome but if you can get past that, all is good.
added 6-24-08 Fields Before Each Other by Becca; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Two years after the events of Half Blood Prince, after two years of war, of set-backs and successes, Harry, Snape and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix are working on planning their final thrust against Voldemort and the Death Eaters. They come to realise that, in times of war, victory exacts a terrible price; 7,420 words; post-Hogwarts; A very sad fic, but beautifully written. There might be a warning that I should give, but I won't… you'll understand why.
added 7-14-08 Foe Glass by Mimine; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Moody gives Severus Snape a gift that tells him something he already knew about himself. Harry finds out when he learns that Snape has unexpectedly died. Over the course of seven days, we learn of the relationship he and Harry had after the war, and what it meant to Harry, what it meant to Severus.; 6,000 words; post-Hogwarts; major character death; This is one of those fics that just hits you in the gut with the depth of grief conveyed, but oh it is worth the read because it is so achingly beautiful and could easily mirror anyone of our lives in that many of us have lost someone close to us with no warning, and the aftermath of such a loss can be devastating. Harry has to face a moment(s) from his past, and oh… my heart broke for him as I read his words and thoughts. The entire fic is filled with angst and grief but there is one moment that completely made the fic for me, and I bet anyone who knows me can guess which one it is after you finish reading this. Then there is Ginny, who is portrayed in such a positive light in this fic. It is her actions that make the fic all the more poignant.

Is it finally time to heal old wounds?; 24,000 words; post-Hogwarts; character death but not major, non-con and mention of MPreg; This might be the fic I have read more than any other. Harry is hurting badly and can't seem to get past what happened, but he isn't the only one. This fic tells the story of how he and Snape deal with their grief. Expect to shed more than a few tears.

This is just one of those fics I have a soft spot for. There is a sequel, Morning After.

On his way home, he finds himself in a very interesting predicament; 13,255 words; during Hogwarts; This was one of the first Time-Travel fics I read, and it has remained one of my favorites. What Harry and Severus go through in the past is wonderful but it is the ending… oh yes… it is so sweet and… well, just go read it!

A boy he doesn't want to refuse; 191,386 words; during Hogwarts; major character death; There is nothing I can add to every other rec that is out there regarding this fic. It will probably be the saddest fic any of you ever read, but it will also be the one fic you will never be able to remove from your mind. If someone asked me to give the one fic in HP fandom that sums up why I love it here so much, this would be the fic I would give. Have a few boxes of tissues near when you read, and get ready for a story that will permeate your soul, because it will do that.

This is a character study fic...even though it is really more of a plot-driven fic, although the plot is character-driven -- confused? I implore you to go read this masterpiece -- all will make sense...it is a gem.

added 6-15-08 Ordinary World by Starkindler/ Nufaciel; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; After the defeat of Voldemort, Snape helps Harry to deal with the loss of his family, and a deep friendship begins; 230,200 words; during Hogwarts; This was probably the first fic I followed as a WIP, and I remember being so excited when there was an update. It is a bit fluffier than most fics I've read, but it is fun, and the interaction between Harry and Severus is wonderful. Draco also plays a major part in OW and it was the first fic where I actually liked him (Draco/Fred is a pairing). Snape is tolerable most of the time, but there are parts where he is his snarky self. One of the other things I love about this fic is that it encompasses all emotions: sadness, happiness, fear, anger, despair, love, etc…they're all present in OW. I could go on forever. But in the end, it is the angsty parts that get me every time I read OW - and as I said, there is plenty of that to go along with all of the happiness.

But is Harry Slytherin enough to avoid his own trap?; 66,506 words; during Hogwarts; I think what intrigues me the most in this fic is my knowing, or thinking I know, that Snape was on to Harry from the beginning. The way the fic plays out and how things progress is what made me want to know what the next step was going to be for them. It was as if they were playing a game. This is a fic not to be missed.
added 6-15-08 Pledges by Amireal; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Screwed up spells, attacks on Hogwarts, Potions Masters who dearly wish he had actual control over his life; 70,824 words; during Hogwarts; Harry accidentally binds himself to Snape. Well, I think it was one of the first Snarry fics I ever read, and I remember being compelled to not stop reading until I finished. The events in 'Pledges' are so out of Harry and Severus's control, and the way they react to the situation is quite poignant and heart-breaking. The slow transformation of forced closeness into something more is well done.

His teacher? Professor Snape. Features ghost cats and cursed harps, spells that are supposed to go wrong and don't, a friendly sociopathic Death Eater... and Snape's very naughty, naughty library. Published: February 2, 2003 (between Goblet of Fire and Order of Phoenix). 58,873 words; during Hogwarts; Snape is IC throughout the fic. This was one of the early SS/HP fics that I read and it set the bar rather high for IC Severus, and I have never forgotten it. In the early days, the HP/RW did not do anything for me but in recent years I have taken a fancy to the two being together, so it was great fun reading the fic now in a new light. Note for the curious: this is the fic with the invisible lips that kiss Harry.

It is possibly a bit disturbing &mdash the lengths Severus go to, but it works well.

I challenge anyone to read it and not fall in love with it…with Snape, and with Harry.

Following seven years of searching, Harry brings a broken Snape into his home for healing. Can there be reconciliation between them? And who else has come to visit?; 68,701 words; post-Hogwarts; This is another of the fics I read as it was being posted long ago when fandom was young. This might be one of the best Snape portrayals I have had the pleasure to read. He is damaged and does not heal completely, which I commend the author for because it would have been so easy to heal him. I will always hold this fic close to my heart for many reasons. I am so glad I had the pleasure of working with the author of RYH on the Round Robin Mandi and I did in the fall of 2003.

I can't say anything or I'll give away what happens, but let me assure you, this fic is one you won't soon forget! It is a bit disturbing.

Would it have changed the way he dealt with Harry Potter? HBP compliant - Spoilers for all 6 books; 62,075 words; during Hogwarts; There are few fics that upset me… I mean, really really upset me, but this one did. I am not sure if I have ever had such a reaction to reading something as I did when I read a certain scene in this fic. Child-Harry fics are one of my more recent discoveries, and I have fallen in love with them. There is a lot of angst in the fic, so beware of that, but it is a really compelling read.

Harry is so darn endearing &mdash how can you not love a Harry such as is portrayed here? And Snape is oh so Snapish and wonderful. I recommend this fic!!!

He offers to take care of Harry, but what he feels isn't appropriate for a Legal Guardian; 65,600 words; during Hogwarts; Another of those forced bonding and Harry has to lose his virginity fics that I love so much! Harry has been abused by the Dursleys and the only way to keep him safe is for him to get married. Harry isn't the only one dealing with a past that is difficult; Snape has to get past his own demons. Not at all easy to read, the fic has non-con, among other not so pleasant subject-matter.
added 7-14-08 Sins of the Mother Series by Eledhwen; SS/HP, SS/LE in the past; Rated R (mostly for violence); This series is made up of four fics: What Magic Binds, Blood Calls, Out of Bounds, and Fragile. Lily Evans took drastic measures to ensure that Severus Snape would have someone in his life in the future; 82,715 words; during Hogwarts; This is probably the first bond fic I ever read, and it had me from the beginning. It is a rather strange fic, to be honest, and I was curious how events were going to turn out. This fic, or this type of fic is why I am in this corner (Snarry) of fandom. When romance between them is done well, it is wonderful to read, but give me a good fic where the two struggle most of the way and I am one happy gal!

Snape decamps to the United States, where he works as a short order cook in a diner. Harry seeks him out to ask for advice; 27,808 words; post-Hogwarts; I didn't read this fic for a long time because of the title - a really stupid reason, I know! When I finally read it I couldn't believe how much I liked it; Snape was great in this. It has an Aus-ish feel to it, but it isn't.
added 6-24-08 Something To Live For (information to get the password can be found by clicking on the link) by Accio Snape; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Harry has lost his will to live and actively tries to commit suicide with Snape equally determined he not. There are two endings; 32,975 words; during Hogwarts; This is probably my favorite fic of all time...and the fic that found me bawling uncontrollably like a baby for quite a while. There are two versions of the fic...one has a happy ending, and the other...definitely not happy (with a major character death). When you get to the ending, click on alternate ending and it will take you to the sad ending. I suggest you also read the happy one as well because it is wonderful!

He wish he'd known that when he wrote in it; 3,974 words; during Hogwarts; I remember reading this fic on the original WTP archive. No real plot, but it is oh so good… Mmm yes, go read it and its sequel, Quill and Ink, which on this list as well.

However, he hadn't expected the sudden trip back through time thanks to a booby-trapped Diadem, Neither had Severus Snape, who gets dragged into the backlash of the spell. Now they're both stuck in the past, what are they going to do? Together they struggle to earn a living and have to learn to survive, whilst continuing to search for a way home; 60,000 words; post-Hogwarts; Everything about this fic enchanted me: the setting in Rome; the going back into the past; the awkward relationship that Harry and Snape have to assume; the politics of said arrangement, etc. This is so well written, and the story is compelling, not only because we are able to read a great Snarry, but because we are given a peek into how life was in Ancient Rome, and it is fascinating. I love fics where I learn about other cultures and other times, so this fic was a wealth of overflowing proportions for me.

added 6-23-08 The Courtship of Harry Potter by Diana Williams; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; Another teacher's interest in Harry Potter forces a reluctant Snape to compete for the young man affections; 40,627 words; during Hogwarts; Go read it - it is quite hot, but… it is not all about the hotness. In fact, it is everything that happens leading up to said hotness that makes the fic compelling. Severus starts out with a certain goal in mind and sets off to go about achieving it, but what he ends up with is far more than he ever expected or wanted. I LOVE this fic!

The idea of Snape being a Gypsy almost kept me away, but don’t let it because it is a really good fic.

Snape is working outside of Hogwarts and Harry becomes his assistant. If you want to know more you'll have to read it! This is one of those fics that you will come back to again and again.
added 6-16-08 The First Time's the Worst by Diana Williams; SS/HP; Rated R/NC-17; When Voldemort makes plans involving a sort of virgin sacrifice, drastic measures must be taken; 5,953 words; during Hogwarts; Both Harry and Severus are virgins and must do something about that. This is one of the more realistic fics concerning sex. Neither Harry nor Snape has a clue as to what to do, and reading their exploits is both funny and a bit embarrassing. This is another of those fics I like to read when I need a smile. Severus is IC

He died...; 37,641 words; during Hogwarts; major character death; This is another fic that lingers long after you have finished reading it; Harry and Severus are so very memorable and endearing in this exceedingly sad fic. You will mourn the loss just as ? does. Every time I hear a certain song on the radio I think of this fic, and the sadness surfaces; I have an idea this happens for many people. A fic not to be missed.
added 6-24-08 The Living Years by Dementor Delta; SS/HP; Rated R (Maybe NC-17); Severus Snape makes the ultimate sacrifice for Harry Potter. No, not that sacrifice! The other one! And finds Sanctuary in the most unexpected of places.; 35,600 words; post-Hogwarts; This is a another one of those turn-back-the-time fics that I love so much, and we get to see a young Severus, which is a delight - I so love to read about what he might have been like as a child. From a caring and protective Draco to an understanding and careful/hesitant Harry, everything was crafted so well. My love for this fic is immense. I am not one to read fics over again and again, but I think this one will be reread a few times -- it is just such a happy and positive fic. I fell in love with Draco -- he made such a good dad.

It is bittersweet, but so beautiful… and more than a little hot!

Will he ever find out who it is and when he does what will he think? 16,200 words; post-Hogwarts; This is one of my all-time favorite SS/HP fics because it makes me sigh in contentment. Snape is not very IC, but it doesn't matter in the least because the fic is so… guh - wonderful!

added 6-21-08 The Return of the Prodigal by Lachesis; SS/HP; Rated R; When Harry is tossed backwards in time through a magical accident, he has no choice but to return the hard way. One day at a time; 27,070 words; during Hogwarts; Time-Turner fics are one of my favorite genres to read, so of course I love this fic, but it is unique in several ways. I can't be certain about this, but I am thinking that this was probably the first SS/HP fan fic I read. If anyone is new to this pairing, I think this fic would be a wonderful introduction. I was fortunate that my first few fics were not overly romantic, so the Snape that we all know and love was recognizable.

A few former Gryffindors come to the rescue.; 11,528 words; during Hogwarts; There are not many fics that I like because of the sex/smut, but this fic is one of those exceptions. I read it long ago when I was devouring copious amounts of Snarry and I recall thinking how bloody hot it was! Not any plot, but the fic is full of smutty goodness with some cross-over between the pairings, and a foursome…very hot indeed! Oh yes, there is a sequel: Hell: Frozen Over, in which there is a game played… not saying anything else, so go read!

added 6-18-08 Through A Shattered Mirror by Rushlight; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; When Harry falls into the hands of the Death Eaters, he learns that life isn't as black-and-white as he'd once thought it to be; 31,240 words; during Hogwarts;This is different from fics I usually am drawn to, but it is such a good story. Harry is taken prisoner and Snape is in charge of him. Harry discovers that he is drawn to Severus and Draco, who is also staying with Severus. At times, what is happening seems so wrong, but at the same time, it seems so natural. It has been a while since I have read it, and I seem to recall that it was not the easiest fic to read because of the subject-matter aned the arrangement that exists, but it was so worth the read. I am a huge fan of this author!
added 7-02-08 Trials and Tribulations by Blue Moon3; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; When Snape is arrested after Voldemort's final downfall, there is only one person who can stand up for his defence in court - and not exactly the person Snape would have chosen. (This fic was written pre-OotP); 44,850 words; post-Hogwarts;This was one of the first post-Hogwarts fics that I read; it was a wonderful introduction to a more mature Harry, and I very much enjoyed Snape - we are given insight as to why he is the way he is now, and it is a riveting story that I didn't want to end.
added 7-02-08 Trying Again by Cyndassa; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; A physically and mentally abused Harry has to try living a 'normal' life.; 78,818 words; during Hogwarts/AU;Harry is seventeen when the fic begins and, even though he is at Hogwarts, he has never attended lessons for various reasons. What happens next is a poignant story of how Snape helps a repressed Harry heal and trust again. Note for the curious: this is the fic where Harry wears gloves.
added 6-15-08 Twelve Days by venivincere; SS/HP; Rated NC-17; After the war, and after being away for a few years, Harry returns and tries to find his place in the world. After an auspicious beginning, he discovers some things never change, and other things change quite a bit; 48,412 words; post-Hogwarts; Well, since I just finished it an hour ago, I can say without a doubt, it is the emotional aspects of the fic that remain vividly in my mind. There are such vast changes throughout the fic, and everything flows like a song and dance. I laughed, frowned, smiled, and sighed in contentment. It is truly a beautiful romance. Yes, the sex is good...oh it is really hot and passionate, but what the two share is so much more than that. Nothing comes easy for either of them, but then again, it never has, so why should this be any different? I loved the characterizations -- Severus is very much the surly greasy git from Harry's school days, with all the vitriol he can muster. Harry is still searching, just as he was at the end of book six -- I can see Snape and Harry ten years down the road...in a slash-friendly JKR world...in this very situation! There are others in the fic, and they are wonderful as well, I need to stop at some point though; I could write forever about this fic!

The day of Harry's 18th birthday, he gets a wish of a lifetime granted to meet his idol, his inspiration the musical prodigy, Severus Snape; 41,865 words; AU; major character-death; There are books, movies, songs, etc. that once heard or seen, never leave us - this is such a fic - after reading this I was distraught for quite a while, but I loved it. It completely devastated me, but since I tend to love the angst, that was a good thing. Have tissues ready when you read!

So after being in fandom for six years I have decided to finally compile a list of fics that move me in some way. Not all of them are written spectacularly, several of them are good enough to be professionally published, many of them are sad, others are happy. All of them have left an indelible mark on me for one reason or another. Most of them are going to be older fics that many might not ever have heard of. I so love reading all of the new fics, but there was something magical about being in fandom in 2002 when there were relatively few fics, at least compared to today.
I will be adding to this list as I re-read older fics and find new ones I like. Most of the fics are going to be SS/HP, but, eventually, there will be other pairings as well as gen. Some of the fics are going to be password protected or archived on a site that requires you to join or be friended to read the fic. Please read the fic headers: not all warnings will be mentioned in my comments, so pay attention to any warnings the author has warned for.

added 7-12-08 Act Five: Deconstruction of an Architect by Dacro; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG-13; A reporter once asked of me, ‘Sir. If the most notable moments of your life were to be documented for the stage, how many acts would there be, and what would they be called?’ I was of a mind to ignore him, and yet an answer came to my lips—much to my surprise. “Four acts—in no certain order: Death of a Father, Death of a Servant, The Bridge, and The Arrival of the Boy." There is also this movement, a fifth and final act that I neglected to share with him. It has no title as of yet; 8,500 words; AU; There is not enough I can say about this fic; it is well written, has a great story, and… well, it is awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this; first person; it worked so well, and I can't imagine it being told any other way. Albus as Severus's servant was so well done--he and Harry's interactions were so wonderful. And I love how Harry slowly worked his way into Severus's heart and gave him the son he hadn't had. Everyone needs to go read this fic!
added 7-06-08 Cloaked by Altaira; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG; Severus can't find his cloak. Who has it, and why?; 6,164 words; during Hogwarts; This is a sweet, short fic that, if it has not already been, needs to be illustrated. I love the images that my mind conjures when reading this.
added 6-23-08 Dying of the Light by Rochelle; SS/RL, SS, HP; Rated R; The sordid past of Severus Snape, Dark Arts prodigy turned follower of Voldemort. Meet him during his school days; witness his life as a Death Eater; 39,322 words; during Hogwarts; DOTL is such a wonderful fic, and I can't say enough about it - if you are interested in a school-aged Severus Snape, and what precipitated his becoming a Death Eater, this fic is a must read IMHO. It is slash - Severus/Remus, but the slash element is so minimal that it could almost be classified a gen fic. I had forgotten about Remus being in the fic. There are other slash situations as well, but nothing graphic, sexually. There are other graphic situations, however! I've read many fics...gen...het...slash...sweet...sad...angsty...fluffy, and I've been moved to tears by a handful of fics. DOTL encompasses everything I have just listed, even though it is by nature an angst-filled fic. I don't know how anyone could read this fic without being affected - it is probably one of the most troubling fics I've ever read. I've read fics with much more violence, much more death, and much more anger, but this fic encompasses situations that, once you read them, you will never forget them.
added 7-08-08 Go With the Tide by Tantz; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG-13; Snape retrieves an injured Harry from the Dursleys-- only this time, the damage is more permanent, and Snape is not prepared to be cuddly; 67,085 words; during Hogwarts; Fics in which Harry is disabled have always intrigued me, and this is one of the best that I have read. Harry's transformation from a scared blind boy to a confident young man who is determined to defeat Voldemort is done so well.
added 7-07-08 Happy Days in Hell by Enahma; Gen SS, HP; Rated R; A tale about a captivity which brings two unlikely persons closer - much closer. Not a slash story; 368,000 words; during Hogwarts; This fic is one of those fics that will more than likely never leave me. It is hauntingly beautiful. It is written by a non-english native speaker so the grammar is not that great, but if you can get past that, it is well-worth the read. This story is only the first fic in this series (The other fics can be found by clicking on Enahma's ID on the provided link, and the order that the fics should be read is at the top of the provided link). The word total I have used adds all the fics in the series together.
added 7-07-08 Harry Potter and the Masters by Pose; Gen SS, HP; Rated R; During the summer after his third year, Harry is apprenticed to the Masters. During his three year apprenticeship, he struggles to come to terms with his mentor, the mastery, and staying close to his friends. He makes new friends, and new enemies; 50,184 words; during Hogwarts; I absolutely love this fic. I have read hundreds, if not thousands of fics, and the story that Pose tells is probably the best one I have read: it is original, has plenty of angst, and the Snape and Harry interaction is beyond amazing. I love Snape in this so very much.
added 7-26-08 One Good Turn by Empathic Siren; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG-13; Snape saves Harry from the Dursleys, Harry saves Snape from Voldemort and, by the end of it all, they just might save each other. This is a story about redemption, love, acceptance and strength. It's about Harry and Snape finding their own way on their own, but never alone. It's about each of them letting go of the past so that one can embrace a hopeful future, even when past hurts come back to haunt them. Mostly, it's about Harry and Snape teaching each other. After all, one good turn does deserve another; 119,613 words; during Hogwarts; My first forays into HP fan fic consisted of fics where Severus had to help Harry, and this fic is probably the best of this genre that I have come across. Of course, I might have said that about another fic, but Siren is am amazing writer who knows how to paint a masterpiece with her words. Her Harry is my Harry &mdash he is vulnerable, stubborn, and he craves love. I think this fic is a must read for anyone who appreciates the mentor relationship between Severus and Harry.
added 7-24-08 Someone to Watch Over Me by SirenPrincess; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG-13/R; Written for night_childe2 for her birthday. She requested Severus saves Harry from the Dursleys. My original idea was extremely angsty and very canon. I have wanted to explore some aspects of canon for some time, so most of those ideas got incorporated into this story. However, she requested a mostly happy ending, so I'm giving her one of those, too. The ending is completely open to the reader’s interpretation. You can interpret it as a parental relationship, a friendship, pre-slash, whatever you want.; 6,020 words; during Hogwarts; Another Severus to the rescue fic, and it is wonderful in every way. It is sad, happy, and all-around, a great read.
added 7-10-08 Somewhere I Belong by Shadowarwen; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG-13; Severus Snape discovers a hidden truth about Harry's home life. And decides to take matters into his own hands; 48,321 words; during Hogwarts; This is another of those fics that seems to linger in the back of my mind; it is original and captivating – the story kept me on the edge of my seat. There are two sequels but I have not read those.
added 6-15-08 The Christmas Gift by Severitus; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG; Harry's in the Christmas spirit, and he's determined to spread the joy...even to Professor Snape; 7,467 words; during Hogwarts; This has to be one of the best Christmas fics ever! It is so sweet, and it is just about – perfect!
added 7-08-08 The Talisman by Chips Challenge; Gen SS, HP; Rated PG/R; Harry disappears suddenly and when he returns he has a glowing talisman embedded in his neck. Severus claims that this can be used to control him and it must be removed, but its absence causes Harry great pain; 170,505 words; during Hogwarts; This is actually a series of fics; the word count reflects the total of all of the fics. The last fic in the series is incomplete but I am adding this now because it is a fic I do not want to lose track of. Snape has to help Harry... Yes, I do seem to gravitate towards this type of fic.

So after being in fandom for six years I have decided to finally compile a list of fics that move me in some way. Not all of them are written spectacularly, several of them are good enough to be professionally published, many of them are sad, others are happy. All of them have left an indelible mark on me for one reason or another. Most of them are going to be older fics that many might not ever have heard of. I so love reading all of the new fics, but there was something magical about being in fandom in 2002 when there were relatively few fics, at least compared to today.
I will be adding to this list as I re-read older fics and find new ones I like. Most of the fics are going to be SS/HP, but, eventually, there will be other pairings as well as gen. Some of the fics are going to be password protected or archived on a site that requires you to join or be friended to read the fic. Please read the fic headers: not all warnings will be mentioned in my comments, so pay attention to any warnings the author has warned for.

added 7-12-08 After Eden by Rickey_a; HP/DM; Rated NC-17; Life threatening injuries are an occupational hazard even for a seasoned Auror, but Harry Potter never considered the possibility of life altering injury. And why is it that Draco Malfoy has to be the one to help him?; 15,000 words; post-Hogwarts; This fic completely drew me in, and I can't say enough about it. It iss wonderfully written, and my heart hurt for Harry throughout.
added 6-23-08 Arctic Fox by Scrtkpr; HP/DM; Rated NC-17; "Isn't that Draco Malfoy? He keeps looking at you, Harry."; 28,000 words; post-Hogwarts; Harry is my favorite character, which will be no surprise to any of you, but the Draco in AF has won me over, again and again. I could go on forever explaining why I enjoyed this fic, but instead, go read it! It is not epilogue-compliant. This fic touched me in a way that not many fics have.
added 7-26-08 Beautiful World by Cinnamon; HP/DM; Rated R; Draco is afraid of living and Harry is afraid of dying, but sometimes the choice isn't offered. Draco's got to learn what it is to really live, while showing Harry how beautiful the world really is when you're not too scared to see it; 70,367 words; during Hogwarts; major character death; Sad, devastating, unfair, heartbreaking, mind-numbing, beautiful, poignant… I could continue, but I think you get the idea. This is not the saddest fic I have read, but it is the saddest H/D I have read, and it had me crying, and not just a little cry, but one of those heart-wrenching sobs that seemed never-ending, kind of like the end of HBP or the end of DH (sans epilogue). I rec this ten times over!
added 7-27-08 Betrayed by katydidnt; Gen HP, but also everyone else to a lesser degree; Rated PG-13; In his fifth year Harry Potter was framed for murder and sentenced to Azkaban. Ten years later his innocence is proven. What will Harry do? Written PreOotP; 93,892 words; post-Hogwarts; Years ago I read some of this fic but, for some reason, I never finished it &mdash possibly it wasn’t completed then. Now that I have read it in its entirety, let me tell you that THIS FIC is one of those fics that is truly comparable to reading a novel; it had everything a good book needs: suspense, a compelling story, a problem that needs to be solved, and a believable path from beginning to end. No doubt, in the past, I have become completely immersed in fics, but recently that has not been the case most of the time. With this fic it was &mdash I devoured the words and laughed, smiled, cried and shouted as the events happened. It is an emotional journey from beginning to end and there is no possible way anyone can read this and not be affected. As my recs go, I have no true system, but this fic gets the equivalent to what would be my highest rec. Stories such as this are the ones I want to read.
added 6-23-08 Bittersweet Symphony by Wolfiekins; HP/RW; Rated NC-17; Harry's a bit more out of sorts than he's ever been, and Ron's at a loss as to what to do about it; 20,300 words; post-HogwartsIt is excellent -- long and filled with rich plot, dialogue and descriptions. Wolfiekins writes the exact type of fics I love - angsty with a great story! I can't recommend this story enough.
added 7-12-08 Black's Blood Curse by Rickey_a; HP/DM; Rated PG-13; Teddy Lupin is gravely ill, and only the blood of the closest living Black male relative can save him.; 9,268 words; post-HogwartsI love fics with Teddy, and, of course, fics that are angsty. Since this has both it is one I quite liked!
added 7-07-08 Decisions by Simons Flower; HP/HG, although this fic is only Harry; Rated PG; Harry has some decisions to make about his future.; 675 words; post-Hogwarts; This is a short and sweet fic about Harry trying to decide something important.
added 6-23-08 Draco's Boy by Empathic Siren; HP/DM; Rated R; non-magic AU. A mysterious little black-haired boy moves in next door to Draco, and he's determined to make the boy his friend and find out all of his secrets. Later, when they grow up, Draco's determined to make Harry much more than a friend; 189,446 words; This is AU non-magic, not a genre I read very much, but it has just about all of my favorite themes: abused-Harry; mentor-Snape; Harry and Draco meet and become friends, and yes, more eventually; Harry finds a surrogate family, etc. And when I say it has these themes, I mean that Siren delves in and dissects each of them. She did not simply decide to write an abused-Harry fic. The words written and the emotions on all sides still make me want to cry. I always empathize with Harry, or almost always, but in this fic, there is so much there and it makes Harry so real and so vulnerable. It was Harry being written about, but 'he' could be anyone, and to see him deal with everything, or not deal with it as is the case at times, is so heartbreaking. This is not a fluffy fic to read if you want to be cheered up, but it is such a touching story and is told in such a beautiful way with all the real complications that people face in life. Then we have Draco - he is written extremely well - maybe one of my favorite portrayals of him. This fic, to me is very much about Harry, but it is just as much about Draco: his life has been so vastly different from Harry's, and through circumstances, he learns that his life is not as perfect as he had imagined it to be, and through Harry, he learns what life can be like. It is truly beautiful to see the relationship between Harry and Draco as it evolves over the years from their childhoods to their teenage years. And Narcissa and Snape: there are no words to convey how much I loved them in this fic. They are not perfect. They make mistakes just as real people do, and these traits are not glossed over at all in this fic. We are shown different sides of both characters and how situations can dictate our actions, sometimes for the better, and sometimes, not. So run don't walk, and read this fic!
added 7-08-08 Harry Potter and the Daughter of Malfoy by Fyre; LM/HP; Rated PG-13; Lucius Malfoy is a clumsy git. A pregnancy potion made by Snape for Malfoy's wife ends up spilt on our seventeen year old hero. Harry Potter ends up knocked up. He's really not best pleased. After all, how is he meant to save the world if he has to go on maternity leave?; during Hogwarts; 23,512 words; during Hogwarts; MPreg. This is primarily a humorous fic; yes, there is a cute story, but it is so funny, and I rarely go for humor in fic. If you need to smile, read this!
added 7-12-08 How Do You Mend A Broken Heart by Mahaliem; HP/DM; Rated NC-17; In order to keep custody of his children, Draco needs to find a spouse that will shore up the Malfoy family's tattered reputation. But what starts off as a means to an end gets more complicated when Draco's target reawakens feelings in him that he hasn't had in a long while, and Draco starts to feel alive for the first time since his wife's death; 26,532 words; post-Hogwarts; Since DH came out I have enjoyed reading fics about Draco as a parent, and this is a wonderful one. I love, love, love the Harry/Draco interactions!
added 6-24-08 Lessons in Living by Eeyore9990; HP/DM; Rated PG-13; While learning how to live, Harry inadvertently teaches Draco; 6,504 words; post-Hogwarts; This fic is beautifully written, and it is such a positive and enlightening example of how much there is to live for in life.
added 7-11-08 Making My Head Spin by Slytherin Girl; SS/HG; Rated PG-13/R; Tragedy brings Hermione to Hogwarts. Friendship keeps her sane. Love lets her keep going; 125,773 words; starts during Hogwarts; I have to admit I never finished this fic, but what I did read was so compelling and I do plan on finishing it. The high number of reviews seems to support my thoughts. I absolutely loved both Snape and Hermione in this fic.

added 7-12-08 No Fury by Meri; HP/DM; Rated NC-17; After years of avoiding Draco Malfoy, Auror Harry Potter is forced into a situation where he can't anymore.; 24,000 words; post-Hogwarts; I love a good mystery, which this fic is, and Meri writes it so well.
added 7-11-08 Of Owls and Ribbons by Abigail89; HP/RW; Rated NC-17; Christmas is coming, and Harry and Ron have been working insane hours. They haven't seen each other in weeks. And yet, they're hosting the family celebration at their house. How will they do it, and have enough sex to satisfy? It's magic!; 6,012 words; post-Hogwarts; This fic is hilarious; I laughed quite a bit! Oh yes, and there is some pretty hot sex as well…
added 7-15-08 Sleep Well by TeaWithVoldy; MW, RL; Rated PG-13; Molly Weasley and Remus Lupin prepare Harry's body for burial; 1,807 words; during Hogwarts; major character death; Extremely sad. I can see, so vividly, Molly and Remus bathing Harry, and I cry every time I read this.
added 7-12-08 Stop All the Clocks by Simons Flower; HP/RW; Rated NC-17; Christmas isn’t as merry as usual for Harry and Ron after the death of someone close to them.; 1,972 words; post-Hogwarts; character death; Just a short fic that gets to me every time I read it.
added 7-08-08 Sweet Sixteen, Again by Ataraxis; RL/HP; Rated NC-17; Remus becomes his "cousin" Orion Lupin in order to guard Harry. Harry becomes close to his new classmate; 14,188 words; during Hogwarts; Remus/Harry has never been a pairing I have liked, but I adore this fic so much. Remus is wonderful!
added 7-08-08 Take A Sad Song (And Make It Better) by femmequixotic; HP/DM; Rated NC-17; The last thing Harry wants is to lose his kids; 45,425 words; post-Hogwarts; The story is very involved, but it is an interesting read. It took a long time to introduce Draco into the storyline, but it was worth it to get such a wonderful story.
added 6-23-08 The Arc of the Pendulum by Brummell; HP/DM; Rated R; After his father casts a mysterious curse on Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy is forced to try to make things right.; 30,200 words; post-Hogwarts; Go read this fic! If you like hurt/comfort, oh, this fic is made for you! But it is so much more than just h/c: Draco is portrayed so wonderfully throughout. He struggles throughout the entire fic. He has lost just about everything, and then he finds Harry, or a slightly altered Harry, and what happens next is beautiful. Draco cares for Harry and helps him as best he can. And, along the way, he helps himself as well. Draco is a character that I have slowly grown fond of, and this fic goes a long way in reinforcing my love for reading him in fics. Harry is always going to be my favorite character in the books, so I love it when a fan fic Harry pulls at my heartstrings the same as the canon one does. Brummell portrays Harry's strengths and weaknesses so poignantly, and sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between what is Harry's strength and what is his weakness. He struggles with everything he tries to do, and, on top of that, he has to come to terms with Draco as the person who helps him. It has the angst, it has the drama, it has the sex, it has the mystery, and it has that aww factor that will make you fall in love with the boys all over again. Do not pass this up!
added 7-07-08 The Catch by Passo; SS/RW; Rated NC-17; It all started with a chess game and a bet between Harry and Ron. Now Ron has to take Snape out on a date. How will our favorite redhead woo his acerbic Potions professor?; 37,562 words; during Hogwarts; This was the first Snape/Ron fic I ever read, and I was hooked from the beginning. For a fic that starts out rather light-hearted, it quickly morphs into a somewhat angsty fic. If you think you'd like to try out this pairing, READ THIS FIC!
added 7-07-08 The Fortress Within by Idamae; SS/HG; Rated NC-17; Voldemort assigns Severus a partner, one as cold and detached as he is; 85,226 words; post-Hogwarts; My first OTP in the HP fandom was Snape/Hermione, and this was one of the first fics I read. It is disturbing beyond your wildest imagination, I assure you, but it is such a well-constructed fic, and all these years later, my heart still hurts when I think about this fic. It is beautiful. I give this story my highest recommendation!
added 6-23-08 The Price We Pay For Wings by Frayach; HP/DM; Rated R; Books have the power to shape young lives. At least that is the hope of the anonymous author of a best-selling series about a Muggle boy and his best friend on the eve of a world war. But stories do more than just shape the future: they can redress the wrongs of the past as well. But only as long as it's not too late...;13,600 words; character death, but not Harry or Draco; post-Hogwarts; This is such a beautiful fic. I can't say anything more than that: you just need to go read it, and you'll understand. You won't be sorry. It is very sad, so have tissues ready.
added 7-11-08 This Present Darkness by Elizabeth7; SS/HG; Rated R; When Hermione suffers a personal tragedy, only Snape can help her through it. Along the way they discover each other's secrets and face a common foe; 75,041 words; post-Hogwarts; This fic is extremely sentimental for me, and I have shed a few tears reading it again. This is a fic I lost in 2003 and only found again today. I think the reason it stayed with me all these years was that both Snape and Hermione are so strong-willed; I love the banter between them. They both become attracted to each other over time but that is only a small aspect of the fic. I think Snape's protectiveness of Hermione is so well done. The plot -- though it takes a bit to get to what it is -- is amazing.

added 7-11-08 While Making Other Plans by Ricky_a; HP/RW; Rated NC-17; Not everything is obvious, at least not to Harry and Ron, but they find their way; 5,000 words; during Hogwarts; Such an enjoyable fic that will make you go… awww!
added 6-23-08 Who Can Stand by oldenuf2nb; HP/DM; Rated R; The Chariot: Opposites, one light, one dark, learning to work together for Victory, then coming to realize that Victory is not the end, but a new beginning; 22,000 words; post-Hogwarts; This fic is not canon-compliant, but it reads very much as if it could be. I don't want to give anything away because anyone who reads it needs to go into it the same way I did, knowing nothing about it, but both Draco and Harry are portrayed very much the same as they are in canon, and that never changes throughout the fic, but the way Harry and Draco come to respect each other and help each other as they try to accomplish a task they have been given, is beautifully written. There is more than a bit of angst in the fic, but oh...it all adds up to a wonderful fic that I will want to read over and over again. Go read it!

IMHO, this is one of the most well-written fics in fandom; the words are crisp, descriptive, and evocative of the events that transpire. Harry's and Severus's exploits are delightful to follow as they find themselves young children in the past, and since neither of them had ideal childhoods, this second chance for them is indeed magical. And Ron and Hermione as their surrogate parents… beautiful and wonderful! I HIGHLY recommend this fic and the sequel, "Growing Pains," which you can find by clicking on the author's name at the top of the link I have provided. - it will take you to all of the fics by Tiranog.

Harry is great in this fic &mdash he is witty and completely charming. All of the magical details are imaginative and add to an already fun fic.

It is sappy and very OC, as far as Snape, but I absolutely love it!
